2017 Shakopee Youth Football Registration

Welcome to the 2017 Shakopee Youth Football Registration with Shakopee Football.  We would like to welcome you to our youth football program and we look forward to another successful season of Shakopee football.

The Shakopee Youth Football Association (SYFA) provides opportunities for participation in football for grades 1-8. Each of the programs below places emphasis on skill development and kids having fun! First-time players are welcome at ANY grade level. Equipment and jerseys are provided by SYFA.

Flag football will introduce players to basic football skills, plays, and positions with limited contact in a fun atmosphere. An affordable, quality flag program with lots of playing time for everyone in a fun-filled 10-week season!

Our in-house tackle program will continue training football skills, plays, and positions while introducing proper tackling and contact skills.

The travel tackle program is a more competitive level with games played versus other local communities. SYFA will now participate in the South Suburban Youth Football League, playing teams from Burnsville, Bloomington, Eagan, Farmington, and Lakeville North and South. Their website is for more info. Players will learn a football system similar to the school’s varsity program. Involves travel to nearby cities for away games.

SYFA is USA Football Heads Up Certified and all of it's coaches are required to be certified through USA Football's training program specifically designed for football coaches.  See for more details.

All grades are for the 2017-18 school year!

Our goal is to balance the teams as best we can to promote skill development for all participants, we will:

  • Ensure each team meets minimum / maximum player requirements.
  • Equalize teams based on player experience, size of the players, number of ball eligible ball carriers.
  • Balance team ability as needed. This may happen up to and including the first game of the season.
  • Coaches are selected by the SYFA and head coaches must attend the mandatory coach’s clinic.
  • A coach with previous SYFA football coaching experience without incident has priority selection as a coach in any new season.

The parent’s role in athletics education is extremely important. All parents want what is best and success for their child and can sometimes overlook the need for a positive role model during the course of the season. It is the responsibility of the parents and coaches to be a good example to the players and provide guidance as to how to deal with challenging and difficult situations in a productive manner.
